Alta Via dei Monti Liguri

Just a few kilometres away from the famous Ligurian Riviera with its beaches and picturesque seaside villages, there are wild mountains, rich in woodland, meadows and fast-running rivers. This evocative hill scenery has its own ancient rural traditions and is criss-crossed with thousands of kilometres of paths, mule tracks and dirt roads.

The Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (AVML) is a hiking trail which takes you along the ridge of the Appenines and the Ligurian Alps, with the plains of Lombardia to one side and the sea on the other. The Alta Via provides a spectacular mountain landscapes towards the sea.

The Alta Via painted signs - a red and white marker with AV written in the centre - will become a fond memory for people who follow them along the route, which offers not just exceptional panoramic views along the coast, but also paths through deep and scented woods, high plateaus full of mountain flowers, countryside rich in history and traditions.

The Alta Via was designed for trekking, but bikers often use its pathways which are ideally suited to their sport.

The online guide www.altaviainfoh24.com is meant for both trekkers and bikers and is organized in two distinct versions.

- The on foot version faithfully follows the Alta Via itinerary and divides it into 15 geographical sections that can be customized into daily stages, according to level of training. For each section information is provided on cartography, altimetry, GPX tracks, springs, shelters, accommodation and restaurants, various services.

- The by mountain bike version presents a route that partially deviates from the Alta Via to make it rideable on the bike all the way. This route is divided into 7 sections, which offer all the useful information to prepare and face the excursion.
