The following notes refer to both the hiking and the mountain bike guide and trails

ATTENTION. Despite the fact that Liguria is mainly known for its beautiful sea and beaches, those of you who wish to hike or travel by mountain bike on the ALTA VIA DEI MONTI LIGURI, both on its trekking route on foot and on its mountain bike route, with variants , it is good to know that the trails are along the ridge of the Ligurian Mountains, a true MOUNTAIN, with often impervious and isolated sections. Before leaving, you must therefore carefully evaluate your physical training (also considering the important differences in height) , your experience in the mountains, your equipment (never be without heavy clothing even in summer), any sections still covered in snow, an adequate supply of drinking water, etc.

On the Mountain Bike Track, the rules and limitations of the road traffic laws and/or road signs must always be respected.

September 2023. The Rifugio Gola di Gouta (section 1 of both the foot and mountain bike trails) will cease activity from 1 October 2023 and until a date not yet known.

May 2023. All the accommodation facilities listed in this guide are independent entities and apply their own rates. At the time of booking it is advisable to ask for the economic conditions that they apply.

February 2023. Section 2 by MTB, the stretch of dirt road that from Colle San Bernardo d'Ormea descends to the bridge over the River Tanaro is in very bad condition, some downhill stretches may require you to proceed on foot with your bike in hand.

July 2022. The stretch of Alta Via dei Monti Liguri between the south-east side of the Cima della Biscia, Bric Sportiole and Sella Burain (Section 07 of the "on foot guide and Section 03) of the mountain bike guide) is temporarily forbidden to transit due to works in progress for the construction of a wind farm.

During the closing period, the alternative route along the municipal road "Stella Montenotte and Stella Bonomo" can be used.

The GES (Gruppo Escursionisti Savonesi) volunteers, whom we thank, will in the next few days report the alternative route with the AV signpost, indications at the beginning and end of the stretch and information signs.

June 2022. Attention: both the hiking trail (Section 7 of the guide) and the mountain bike track (Section 3 of the guide) have undergone a change of route near Cascina Miera, a few kilometers after Ferrania. The new track of the two routes now passes on asphalt on the SP12 downstream of Cascina Miera up to the position of the so-called “big tree” position 44.38398 N 8.39708 E.

June 2022. The largest majority of the accommodation facilities along the AV are family runned: when booking please make sure if you can pay by debit or credit card.

April 2022. The mtb track still has a considerable amount of snow on the slopes of Mount Grai (dirt road upstream of Colla Melosa) and in the La Terza Refuge area.  At the moment it is advisable to take the lower variant that transits from Triora and Realdo.

October 2021. Heavy atmospheric events hit the hinterland of Savona. Some parts of the Alta Via (on foot and mountain bike trails) may be inaccessible or difficult to travel. At the moment we have no better details.

July 2021. Due to wind turbine installation works, the track of Section 07 of the hiking route and of Section 03 of the mountain bike trail has undergone the following variant, at the moment it is not known if temporary or definitive: when you reach the sharp bend on asphalt downstream of Cascina Miera (position 44.38470N 8.38456E), if you do not plan to stop at this accommodation, continue on asphalt for about one km on the SP12 until you reach the GPX track again just before the Grande Faggio (huge beech tree). March 2021. The accommodation facilities situation along the way is moving towards normalization. Yet, due to the ongoing health emergency, some of them may have however reduced the availability of beds and / or require the mandatory use of a sleeping bag or personal sleeping bag. It is strongly recommended that you inquire directly with the owners / managers of the facilities and BOOK AT LEAST ONE DAY IN ADVANCE.
